A 21-year-old student of the University of Lagos was reportedly pushed from the third floor of the multi-storey 1004 Flats building in Lagos, following a disagreement with an individual she met on the social media networking site, Facebook.
The young lady, Akabugu Nkiruka, who sustained multiple injuries in the fall, said she met the 26-year-old man on Facebook just about a week before the November 1 incident.
Akabugu underwent a surgery at the General Hospital, Marina, Lagos, on Tuesday for the serious injuries she sustained which included a pelvic fracture.
According to her, she visited the young man (names withheld) who took her to a Nightclub in Apapa before going to his family home at the 1004 Estate, Victoria Island, where he attempted to have sex with her.
She said she had refused his advances telling him she was on her period but he refused to have any of that trying to have sex with her forcefully.
According to Akabugu, the man thereafter pushed her down from the third floor of the building for maintaining her stance not to have sex with him.
The mother of the accused man who spoke to reporters on the condition of anonymity said she was at home at the time of the incident but she had since retired to bed before it happened.
His mother said she paid part of the victim’s hospital bill and even offered to transfer her to a private hospital.
“I took her as our own daughter and so, I can do anything that will make her recover quickly,” she added.
She went further to defend her son saying information available to her indicate that Akabugu jumped herself in the scuffle and was not pushed by the accused.
CSP Fayoade Adegoke, the divisional police officer (DPO) of Bar Beach police station corroborated her story saying Akabugu wrote in her police statement that she jumped on her own, in order to escape being raped.
